Tip #1: Line of Sight

You always want your line of sight to be focused on the center of your wall art. This is important to take into consideration when hanging your piece of art in the vicinity of surrounding of decor, such as sofas and tables. Make sure that everything is lined up, so the space does not seem cluttered.

Example: If you are hanging your wall art over a sofa, ensure that the piece of directly centered above the sofa. The distance from each end of the art, to each end of the sofa should be exactly the same.

Tip #2: Wall Art Display Height

A good rule of thumb is to hang your sculpture, or painting approximately  5 feet above your floor. This height is determined by measuring the distance from the floor, to the middle of your painting. (The middle point of your wall art should be around 60-65 inches above the ground)

This of course should only be done when applicable. If you are hanging art above your sofa, you may not be able to adhere to these standards. In these cases, you should try and position the wall art 6 inches to a foot above your furniture. You’ll determine this distance by measuring from the back of the sofa to the bottom edge of the art.

1. Size – When looking for a piece of wall art, you must take into consideration the size constraints of the desired hanging location. The piece of art should fit nicely, and should not look too big, or too small for the selected area. Most of the time when you are thinking of purchasing a piece of art though, you’ll already have an idea of whether you want a large or small piece in mind. When you think you’ve found the perfect decoration, check out its size dimensions and use a tape measure to get an idea of just how much space it is going to take up. This will give you a good idea of what to expect once it is hung.

2. Color – Make sure the color of the wall art you are considering will compliment the other colors surrounding it. Some wall art can have a combination of many different colors, but usually they all stay within the same dynamic.This is what makes them such a great addition to a space that may be lacking some character. They can fit into a neutrally colored area, and really liven it up with assorted matching colors and designs.

3. Price – This is a pretty straight forward recommendation. When you begin your search, set a price range and try to adhere to it. You don’t want to end up spending next month’s rent on a piece of art, which could result in not having a place to hang it at all. 4. Location – Keep the location of where you want to place your new piece of wall art in mind while searching for it. You want the design, size and style to fit in with its surroundings. Also keep in mind that you might be required to find a stud in your wall in order to hang certain large pieces of wall art, especially metal wall art. This can definitely have an effect on where you would be able to hang such a piece.

5. Style – This last aspect of wall art purchasing definitely comes down to the buyer’s own personal style preferences, but it is important to mention that you do not want your new wall art sculpture to look out of place either. It’s style should go along with the other pieces of decor around it. There are many different types of wall art sculptures that you can purchase and by spending some time searching for one, you’re sure to find the perfect piece to compliment your own style.
