1. Determine your interior design strategy

Before you begin painting walls and hanging wall art, you want to develop an interior decorating plan and stick to it. 2. Take your time, and do not rush your design project

The famous saying states that Rome was not decorated in a day, or maybe it said it wasn’t built in a day? Either way, make sure you keep in mind that you do not need to rush your design project. Get rid of the notion that your entire project needs to be completed all at the same time.

What you want to do is start decorating one room at a time. Begin by adding the basics and then building upon them with additional layers of style and ambiance until you’re satisfied with the space’s appearance.

Remember to adhere to your budget, and plan your decorating process accordingly. Not everyone can go and purchase everything they need to complete a project all at once, so plan on completing small enhancements as you can afford them.

3. Don’t overcrowd your home with unnecessary decor

The best advice I can give is to always try to keep an “open” feel in your space. This will make the room appear larger and more inviting while also helping to accent any decor you have added.

You should also limit the amount of focal points in these areas, because rooms with multiple points make the area sometimes seem confusing or overwhelming. An example of this situation would be having several large pieces of metal wall art hanging.

Remember that properly using “negative space” will help to highlight your decorating efforts.

4. Decorate the ceiling

The ceiling is often times overlooked during interior design projects, but adding a few simple touches to it can really make your space come alive.

You can use a variety of design options to dress up the blank canvas that is your ceiling:

Paying attention to your ceiling will result in your space having a variety of textures and dimensions that will increase the room’s overall appeal.

5. Decorate according to your budget

Most of us are designing on a budget, and it is important to stay committed to using the best materials possible that you can comfortably afford. Think about your interior design process in the long run. You don’t want to use materials that will not stand the test of time. You are after all, adding value to your home, and you want to be able to appreciate your hard work for years to come.
