Once you have purchased a piece of wall art, the next step is to hang it in your home or business. There are several things to consider when deciding on the initial placement of your art, and you can read about them here.

Hanging a basic piece of wall art will require the following:

Level

Picture Hooks

Hammer

Nails

Tape Measure

Steps:

Determine how and where your wall art will attach to your picture hooks (Do this by examining the back of the artwork). For wide paintings I recommend using at least one picture hook at each end.

Note the distance from each side of your painting to the position you will be placing a hook using your tape measure.

Now pick a spot on your wall that you would like to display your art.

With the measurements that you took in step 2, use your level to mark where you will be placing the picture hooks.

With your hammer, attach your picture hooks to the wall at the appropriate marks. Pictures hooks are perfect for hanging art because they redistribute the weight they are holding, unlike nails.

Now, hang your wall art on the picture hooks.

Use your level to ensure that the piece is perfectly level.

Now that your piece of art is hung, you may want to experiment with different lighting techniques. You can read a full article explaining art lighting here.

If you are looking to add a touch of contemporary style and modern design to your home, then a metal wall hanging could be a great addition for you to consider. These types of wall art sculptures are commonly made by hand, and are completely unique, which make them true works of art. Metal wall art was first introduced in 1950 by Curtis Jere, who was a metal working artist. Many of his designs and pieces still influence artists of today.

These types of wall art are considered to be abstract art. Which means that there are no real images in them, only lines, shapes, colors, textures and designs. This abstract method of art creates beautiful pieces that will capture the attention of all who view them.

Metal wall hangings can consist of one, or many separate pieces. Take the pieces below as examples:

Metal wall art sculpture consisting of several pieces.

Single piece of metal wall art

Notice how both of these pieces of wall art share the same abstract design principle.

Aluminum, stainless steel and copper are the most commonly used materials when creating this type of art. Their beauty is brought out by the artist through texturing and coloring processes, which involve machining, brushing, sanding and polishing. This is what gives most metal wall hangings a three dimensional appearance that will react to lighting and viewing position.
