Tip #1: Line of Sight

You always want your line of sight to be focused on the center of your wall art. This is important to take into consideration when hanging your piece of art in the vicinity of surrounding of decor, such as sofas and tables. Make sure that everything is lined up, so the space does not seem cluttered.

Example: If you are hanging your wall art over a sofa, ensure that the piece of directly centered above the sofa. The distance from each end of the art, to each end of the sofa should be exactly the same.

Tip #2: Wall Art Display Height

A good rule of thumb is to hang your sculpture, or painting approximately  5 feet above your floor. This height is determined by measuring the distance from the floor, to the middle of your painting. (The middle point of your wall art should be around 60-65 inches above the ground)

This of course should only be done when applicable. If you are hanging art above your sofa, you may not be able to adhere to these standards. In these cases, you should try and position the wall art 6 inches to a foot above your furniture. You’ll determine this distance by measuring from the back of the sofa to the bottom edge of the art.

Steps:

1. Determine how and where your wall art will attach to your picture hooks  (Do this by examining the back of the artwork). For wide paintings I recommend using at least one picture hook at each end.
2. Note the distance from each side of your painting to the position you will be placing a hook using your tape measure.
3. Now pick a spot on your wall that you would like to display your art.
4. With the measurements that you took in step 2, use your level to mark where you will be placing the picture hooks.
5. With your hammer, attach your picture hooks to the wall at the appropriate marks. Pictures hooks are perfect for hanging art because they redistribute the weight they are holding, unlike nails.
6. Now, hang your wall art on the picture hooks.
7. Use your level to ensure that the piece is perfectly level.

Of all the different forms of wall art lighting, halogen lighting definitely delivers as one of the best options. It emits a strong white light that can really accent the colors of the art without damaging it.

• Even artificial light can damage your art over time, so do not leave a direct source of light on your art at all times.
• Try to avoid hanging your wall art in direct sun light.
• Halogen lighting is your best overall option for wall art lighting.
• Incandescent lighting is a good option for art that has only dark, warm colors.
• Fluorescent lighting should not be used to light art.
